Why Giving Matters

The Berkeley Forum is amidst a period of tremendous growth. Contributions of all amounts are vital to ensure that we can continue to provide the Berkeley community a line-up of engaging, intellectually stimulating conversations.

Three Reasons to Support the Berkeley Forum

       1.       Grants only cover about half of the cost of an event

While the Forum applies for university grants for all events, grants cover anywhere from a third to two-thirds of an event’s real cost. Moreover, many of the grants are restricted and cannot be used to rent certain equipment that is necessary for putting on a professional production.

       2.       Capital gifts decrease event costs

Much of the equipment that the Forum uses is rented for each event. Capital gifts, such as contributions to purchase audiovisual equipment, decrease our dependency on rentals, significantly lowering per event cost. This ultimately reduces the Forum’s dependency on private contributions to cover basic event logistics.

       3.       Every gift makes a difference

All gifts, even small gifts, make a big difference. While putting on a Forum event is not cheap, many of our events are partly subsidized by university grants. Small donations often come in to play to fill in the unsubsidized portion of events.
