Welcome to the Berkeley Forum

The Berkeley Forum is a non-partisan, student-run organization at the University of California, Berkeley. Established in 2012, the Forum hosts debates, panels, and talks by leading experts from a wide variety of fields.

The Forum is an integral piece of the Berkeley campus we call home. It is an unmatched opportunity for students, faculty, and community members to come together and engage with the most pressing ideas of our time. Our platform not only allows experts to share their knowledge with an interested, intelligent audience, but also allows the audience to interact with and challenge the ideas being posed to them. Our speakers come from varied backgrounds in academia, politics, tech, art, journalism and much more, and we strive to expand the horizons of our audience members by introducing them to topics they may not typically encounter in their classrooms. We hope our events provoke thoughtful discussions that last long past the end of the evening and continue to shape discourse for years to come.

The Forum’s history is filled with many such events from a variety of distinguished speakers. Over the past few semesters, we have hosted Chief Justice of California Tani-Cantil Sakauye, Mythbusters Co-Host Jamie Hyneman, US Senator Rand Paul, Radiolab Co-Host Robert Krulwwich, ACLU President Susan Herman, Head of the Pixar Research Group Tony DeRose, and Pulitzer Prize winner David Fahrenthold. This only represents a small number of the speakers that have been a part of our lineup, and I encourage you to peruse our past events to see the full list.

All of this is made possible by the tireless work of our student staff. Our members come from many walks of life but are brought together by a strong commitment to our mission and desire to bring discourse to the Berkeley community. Our team of students runs every aspect of our events, including speaker invitations, photography, marketing, financial development, moderating, and much more.

Forum events are open to the general public and free for UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff. To receive notices about upcoming events, you can follow us on social media and subscribe to our email updates. I look forward to seeing you at a Forum event.
