Berkeley Forum To Host US Secretary of
Homeland Security Jeh Johnson

BERKELEY, California―August 30, 2015―The Berkeley Forum today announced that for its first event of the Fall 2015 session it will host United States Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson.

Jeh Johnson is the fourth Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States. Prior to joining DHS, Secretary Johnson served as General Counsel for the Department of Defense, where he spearheaded reforms to the military commissions system at Guantanamo Bay in 2009, and co-authored the 250-page report that paved the way for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2010. Secretary Johnson will outline novel threats to the United States, from cyberterrorism to the Islamic State to homegrown terrorism.

“We are thrilled to be hosting Secretary Johnson on his visit to the Berkeley campus,” said Matthew Freeman, president of the Berkeley Forum. “As the Department of Homeland Security plays an increasingly important role in keeping the United States and our allies safe while also facing criticism on a number of important issues, it is truly an honor to get the opportunity to hear directly from Secretary Johnson on the evolving threats to America."

The address will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 6:00 pm in Chevron Auditorium, at the International House on the UC Berkeley campus. Ticket sales will begin on Tuesday, September 1 at 5:00 pm. More information about the event and admission may be found on the official event page.
