Berkeley Forum to Host a Panel on Fossil Fuels

BERKELEY, California―April 6, 2014―The Berkeley Forum announced an addition to its Spring 2014 calendar of events: a panel on the Future of Fossil Fuels, featuring panelists Brigham McCown, Catherine Reheis-Boyd, and Larry Schweiger. The panelists — all key players in the field of energy policy and management — will discuss whether the United States should continue developing fossil fuel projects, or if such projects should be abandoned in favor of alternative energy sources. The projects in question include fracking, the Keystone XL pipeline, and offshore drilling.

Brigham McCown is a federal transportation safety and energy infrastructure policy expert. He currently serves as the managing director of United Transportation Advisors, a consulting firm that specializes in trucking and energy cases. Mr. McCown is responsible for ensuring federal and state transportation security and the safety and oversight of the transportation of energy products and other hazardous materials.

Catherine Reheis-Boyd is the President of the Western States Petroleum Association, where she oversees legislative and regulatory issues associated with transportation, fossil fuel production- and renewable energy-related policy, air and water quality, and climate change both within the US and into Canada.

Larry Schweiger is President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Wildlife Federation. As the former President and CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Larry promoted ecological research, land conservation and community outreach. The National Wildlife Federation is currently the United States’ largest conservation organization, with 48 affiliates and more than four million members and supporters.

The panel will take place on Thursday, April 10th, 2014 at 4 p.m. in 101 Moffitt.

More information pertaining to the panel will be posted on the Forum's website, closer to the event.
